The foundation of Jabil’s Respect. Recognize. Reward. program is built on a respectful work environment where everyone is empowered to contribute to the success of the company. The program’s goal is to discover, highlight and share employees’ superior performance and their commitment to helping others.
Employee recognition has always been an integral part of Jabil’s culture and, following our belief in empowerment, each site designed its local recognition program to fit its unique culture. When the Respect. Recognize. Reward. program was developed in 2010, it was critical that sites continue to run its local programs while at the same time, giving them the ability to submit exceptional employees for global recognition. This structure has resulted in hundreds of Jabil employees, from all departments, locations and functions, to be recognized and celebrated each quarter. Employees’ actions and results vary, but their contributions all support Jabil’s Guiding Principles.
As a Logistics Supervisor at Jabil’s Manaus site, Andre Barros started his career six years ago as an intern at Jabil and has steadily progressed into new roles and responsibilities. He hopes to keep advancing within the company and eventually work in logistics at the regional and global level. This year, he proudly served as an Ambassador for Jabil’s annual continuous improvement competition - Deliver Best Practices.
Situated in Brazil’s Amazon rainforest, Andre says that everyone should visit Manaus because of its natural beauty and friendly hospitality. “The hot and humid tropical environment makes for two seasons - rain and no rain,” he jokes. He also encourages everyone who visits to try the local tambaqui fish from the Amazon River for its distinct flavor.
One of his favorite activities outside of work is playing paintball because of the strategy involved and the rush of adrenaline he feels navigating through obstacles and other opponents in the pursuit of victory. “Paintball has allowed me to reconnect with many friends in which I’ve lost touch with over the years,” said Andre. “It helps build camaraderie, teamwork and trust.”
In addition to paintball, Andre enjoys working out at the gym and playing soccer. “I enjoy playing soccer a lot — even though I’m not very good,” he laughs. “I was fortunate enough to see some of the world’s best players at a World Cup game in Manaus this past summer.”
Besides having fun with his friends and family in Brazil, Andre loves to travel and Florida is one of top destinations he likes to visit. He’s traveled to the Sunshine State five times — exploring Orlando, Tampa, West Palm Beach and Miami. What constantly draws him to Florida is the pristine beaches, shopping and theme parks. “Universal’s Islands of Adventure is my favorite,” he adds. In the future, he hopes to continue traveling around the world and eventually backpack around Europe.
