Jabil Announces Plans for Mexico Expansion
4 December 1998
St. Petersburg, Florida
Jabil Circuit, Inc. (NYSE: JBL) today announced plans to increase its current Guadalajara, Mexico manufacturing operation by 120,000 square feet. Construction will begin immediately. Jabil's current 150,000 square foot Mexican facility opened in November 1997.
"We are seeing a strong demand for additional North American capacity, especially in areas that provide access to low-cost manufacturing," said Wesley "Butch" Edwards, Senior Vice President, Operations. "Doubling the size of our Mexico facility is an indication of the strength of both current and new business opportunities in Mexico."
Edwards said the expansion of the Mexico facility will allow both current and new customers to take advantage of Mexico's lower production costs. The factory will continue to offer cost levels that allow delivery of products to North American markets at globally competitive prices.
Jabil has contracted with SchuMexicana Ingenierias, S.A. to build the new facility. The expansion facility will include manufacturing, stock room, office and cafeteria space.
