Jabil Memphis Lands New Business

Plans Underway to Expand Memphis Facility and Headcount

20 June 2005
St. Petersburg, FL

Florida-headquartered Jabil Circuit, Inc. (NYSE:JBL) will add 500 people to its Memphis staff between now and the end of the year, according to Memphis human resources manager Jim Gorkowski.

The Jabil Memphis operation is being expanded to support recently awarded new manufacturing, assembly, and material handling of electronic cash registers and self-serve kiosks.

Memphis Operations Manager Alex Privert said the company is looking for the additional employees to handle everything from electronics system configuration and integration to material handling tasks. To accommodate the business, Jabil will also increase the size of its Memphis facility by more than 50 percent.

"Our services to this customer will include consolidating more than 5000 parts coming in from 200-plus global suppliers via truck, air and rail," he said. "The major reason this contract was awarded to Jabil was our proven record for providing similar services to other large product customers."

Jabil's Memphis facility was chosen to fulfill the new contract in large part because of the city's well-deserved reputation as a world-class distribution center, Privert said.

"It's equally significant that we'll be direct-shipping these products to customers throughout the Americas," Privert added. "There's not a city in the world that's done a better job with its distribution infrastructure than Memphis. We're confident that this city will play a major role in our ability to provide truly extraordinary service."

Shelby County Mayor AC Wharton expressed delight that the Memphis area will benefit from Jabil's growth. "We're proud that yet another major manufacturer has chosen to expand its operations here. As we look to new growth industries such as bioscience we must also continue to support and encourage the existing distribution and logistics business that makes up such a significant part of our local economy. Jabil's expansion is an excellent example of how this industry continues to play a vital role in Memphis and Shelby County, and we are grateful that they are choosing to reinvest in our community."

Gorkowski said those interested in joining the Jabil team should stop in at the Jabil facility located at 5238 Lamar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38118, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, or apply online at www.jabil.com.
