Jabil Awarded AS9100 Aerospace Certification in Chihuahua

Chihuahua, Mexico – December 12 , 2006 – Jabil (NYSE:JBL) announced today that its facility in Chihuahua, Mexico, has been certified to Aerospace AS9100 standard for electronic printed circuit board manufacturing. The AS9100 is the aerospace industry’s quality system standard developed by the International Aerospace Quality Group for quality assurance in design, new product introduction, manufacturing, and servicing. This is Jabil’s seventh facility to achieve the AS9100 certification level.
"Achieving this level of certification in the aerospace industry at our Chihuahua plant is a significant milestone in Jabil’s aerospace strategy within the Americas region," said Bill Peters, Jabil’s Americas president. “The AS9100 certification ensures that the Jabil Chihuahua facility meets the standards for quality, safety, and reliability; and positions our Chihuahua plant as a key supplier to the U.S. aerospace markets.”
“Competitive pressures are driving defense and aerospace companies to review how their resources are deployed,” said Jabil’s Aerospace & Defense sector group head Jim Cocke. “An increase in the outsourcing of defense and aerospace electronics manufacturing means companies such as Jabil, who have met the stringent requirements of AS9100 certification, are in a great position to take advantage of the opportunity,” he said.
According to Cocke many aerospace companies are turning to global electronics manufacturers like Jabil to manage non-core aspects of their operations, such as design, manufacturing, supply-chain management and reverse logistics.
“With product lifecycles of 20 years and more, aerospace contractors’ outsourcing needs focus not only on design and manufacturing,” said Cocke. “In this industry, they are also concerned with product lifecycle support and obsolescence management. Jabil has all the capabilities in place to support those needs."
Jabil Chihuahua is a one million square foot facility, located three hours from the U.S. border. With 2,300 employees it is one of Jabil’s four facilities in Mexico.
