When it comes to global environmental challenges there’s no time for sitting on the sidelines. We are committed to doing our part to manage our impacts, innovate new technologies, and help bring products to market that contribute to solving the greatest environmental challenges of our lifetime.
Managing Environmental Impact
Jabil is continually improving operational efficiency to reduce its environmental impact. We establish yearly carbon and energy goals and track our performance across water and waste. Partnering with customers to reduce the resources used and carbon emitted in the manufacture of their products plays a vital role in maximizing our sustainability efforts.
As part of a customer partnership, in FY2018, Jabil reduced carbon emissions 49% over FY2017, securing 50% of energy requirements from renewable sources. In 2020, every Jabil site has the goal of reducing energy consumption by 1-5%, and we will be establishing new long-term goals beginning in FY2021.
Promoting Renewable Investments
With the rapid rise of renewable technologies and infrastructure, Jabil is continually looking for opportunities to not only maximize its use of renewable energy, but bring those products to market. Reducing our reliance on fossil fuels in manufacturing also means reducing the carbon footprint of our customers’ products.
In 2018, our transition to clean energy in China meant a strategic customer could achieve its goal of a carbon-free product. It also meant Jabil converted more than 1 million kilowatt hours of electricity into renewable energy and saved more than 700,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions. With our connections to the world’s leading brands and companies, we are pushing the move to make renewable energy more competitive than fossil fuels.
As renewables continue to make improvements in usage and cost efficiency, Jabil remains a leading advocate and partner for customers that embrace deploying sustainable solutions for a better future.
Responsibility and ethical business practices are core to Jabil’s identity. Our drive to improve social and environmental issues is a result of our commitment to doing the right things, in the right way.
