In late June, 17 brave bikers from Jabil sites in Italy, Hungary, Poland and Ukraine joined Alex Parimbelli, Executive Vice President & Chief Executive Officer, Enterprise & Infrastructure, and Andrea Lo Sasso, HR Manager for Italy, for the first regional charity event within Europe. The event which they took part in was called the Stelvio Challenge.
The ultimate goals was to raise money and awareness for the Soccorso Clown Onlus organisation, which has been bringing together and uniting the professions of circus and theatre operators for over twenty years in order to improve the lives of sick children and their families. These people are trained help, working together with nurses and doctors, to confront and transform the lives of sick children whilst they are in hospital, reducing the stress from fear and suffering, limit pain and reduce the need for drugs making hospital stay more beatable and contributing to the process of healing.
To help raise money for this fantastic cause, 17 Jabil employees from four European sites took on the brave challenge of cycling at a very high gradient with numerous hairpin turns. The journey was not without its challenges, as this was a 23 km ride with a steep 7.1% incline all the way up to Passo dello Stelvio located at 2760 m. The ride is set out to be very tough and strenuous, but thanks to the teamwork and determination displayed by this passionate Jabil team, the ride was completed successfully. There were 215 cyclists in total, with around 20% of participants being female. Jabil had two female participants among the group. This is yet another example of ways that Jabil are making a conscious effort to bridge the gender diversity gap even outside the workplace.
“It was a really great experience. A special recognition for the ones who got to the top, despite being their first time on a road bike! This is amazing,” said Alex Parimbelli summing up the success of this charity event for Jabil.
This was a fantastic opportunity for Jabil sites around Europe to not only raise money for a great cause, but to benefit from building stronger bonds, testing their teamwork skills, whilst boosting morale and employee motivation. Their passion and determination to succeed is what made this event a huge accomplishment for Jabil Europe. Jabil is extremely proud to have taken part in this challenging, yet incredibly rewarding event. Combined with other companies such as MSD Italia and Brompton Italia, the Soccorso Clown Onlus organisation raised more than 30,000€ exceeding their fundraising goals.
The support that has been given highlights how committed Jabil is to making a difference through engaging in charity events such as the Stelvio Challenge.
Damian Dichting praises the hardwork and determination displayed by everyone who participated, “This was 110% great in terms of social, sport and team building perspective. However the most important part was that we supported the Soccorso Clown in making children’s lives happier!”
