Leading open-source cloud solution providers – StackVelocity and Penguin Computing – collaborate to give customers more options and access

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 9, 2016 — Open Compute Project U.S. Summit — Jabil Circuit, Inc.’s (NYSE: JBL) StackVelocity division announced today at the Open Compute Project U.S. Summit that it has launched production of its Open Compute Project (OCP) HatTrick Storage solution, featuring Seagate drives, and offered broadly through OCP solution provider, Penguin Computing.

“The HatTrick platform delivers superior drive density and flexibility in a 2 OU form factor,” said Daniel Fitzpatrick, vice president and general manager of StackVelocity. “It is ideal for cloud computing environments that demand both space efficiency and open source standards. Working with Penguin Computing, we can deliver this solution to a wider diversity of enterprises and Tier 2 service providers than ever before, unlocking the power of OCP for a much larger segment of the market.”

HatTrick Tech Specs

The StackVelocity HatTrick Storage solution provides unmatched drive density for OCP customers by delivering (45) 3.5–in. drives in 2 OU.

  • The HatTrick Storage solution delivers three individually serviceable JBOD sleds each with (15) 3.5” Hot Plug drives providing a 50 percent increase in density over currently available solutions.
  • In each JBOD the “15th” drive slot is dual-channeled to enable the option of two Hot Plug small form factor (SFF) 9-mm drives and introduce a number of new application-specific implementations.
  • Each sled has two serial attached SCSI (SAS) ports providing the ability to dual-zone the JBOD sled across two servers or a single server with two SAS channels (7 +1 SFF to each).
