Nypro Shanghai’s Summer of Giving Back

Nypro Shanghai demonstrated their commitment to its community this summer by planning a variety of outreach activities centered around education, empowerment and the environment.

Education

The site held its second annual Kid’s Day, in which they invited children to the facility to see manufacturing processes firsthand. The children, who are on summer holiday, come from the Honmei community, the same neighborhood where the Jabil site sits. Continuing Jabil’s focus on Safety-first, the 23 children started their day with learning about important safety precautions needed for working in this environment before getting dressed in safety gear and led through the facility by Hui Yong Li, Assistant Production Supervisor. Later in the day, the children created artwork based on what they learned during the tour, with many drawing the technology seen and employees met along the way. “It made me smile to see the expressions of amazement on these young children’s faces as they watched things manufactured right in front of their eyes. This is exactly why we will continue hosting this event every year,” Hui Yong Li said.

Empowerment

To help support the children at an orphanage in Pudong, Shanghai, located just a few miles outside of the site, employees collected diapers, powdered milk and medical supplies. In addition to delivering the supplies, employees spent time at the home playing games with the young children. “By spending time with the children, we are able to show how we care about them beyond just supplying physical goods. We care about them emotionally, too,” said Flora Wang, Human Resource Generalist. The site also collected clothing items to be distributed to a variety of community members in need, including orphans, the elderly, low-income families, and people with disabilities. The lobby quickly started to look like a retail store thanks to the generosity of the employees!

Environment

Extending their care for their community also means demonstrating our core value of environmental responsibility.  Nypro Shanghai employees walked through Cao He Jing Hi-Tech Park picking up litter and other debris from the grassy areas and sidewalks, collecting more than 15 bags of litter weighing over 90 lbs. “We wanted to promote our culture of giving back and show that we all can do something to protect the environment,” said Raymond Zeng, Buyer.
