Application Assistance:
Here are some examples of what type of information should be provided in your application.
Example 1:
My wife and I were very torn on if or when we should leave due to the approaching hurricane. We've only lived in the area a few years, but previously having lived on an island, I am familiar with what the winds and destruction a hurricane can bring. Living near the water's edge (only a mile from Old Tampa Bay), we decided to evacuate to Orlando while we still felt there was time. We incurred the cost for the hotel of course but found that we couldn't leave when we wanted because the hurricane rains were unrelenting and many of the roads and freeways were flooding.
When we did finally arrive back home, we found our house mostly free from damage except where a large oak lost a limb and it hit the back corner of the screen house. Any assistance received would be used to repair the screen house and/or for hotel stay.
Example 2:
I was unfortunately impacted by this disaster because I lost power for almost a week. I had to throw away all my food due to the power outage and it being dangerous to eat and spoiled. I was evacuated from my home, and I did not feel comfortable going to a shelter. I already live paycheck to paycheck unfortunately with the cost of living in Florida being so high. This added another financial factor that has caused me a great deal of stress since I had to stay in a hotel room for 5 days. On top of this, my apartment now has a leak caused by the storm so I will be staying elsewhere for the next few days. This has significantly impacted me financially and emotionally and I would be very thankful for any support I can receive.
