May Yap clinches IDC’s first Asia Pacific 2021 CIO Of the Year award

Win acknowledges evolving role of CIOs as tech leaders move from being functional to a strategic partner

Singapore, 27 October 2021 – May Yap, SVP and Chief Information Officer of Jabil, has clinched IDC’s inaugural Asia Pacific CIO of the Year at the Future Enterprise Awards (FE). This regional recognition, preceded by the CIO of the Year Singapore award she received in September, celebrates outstanding industry professionals that have significantly disrupted or transformed the market using digital technologies to deliver measurable excellence in their digital transformation efforts.

Commenting on the award following IDC Asia/Pacific’s announcement at its virtually-held Digital Transformation (DX) Summit, May said, “This exciting win reaffirms that Jabil Global IT is on the right track. Firstly, in redefining the role of IT by driving technology transformations that move us from a service provider to a business partner. Secondly, refining the way we achieve integrated IT delivery, becoming more agile with our end-to-end automation leveraging the internet of things (IoT), AI, and big data. Thirdly, realizing holistic benefits internally and externally, uniquely placing Jabil at the forefront of advanced manufacturing at scale.

Equally important, I believe this recognition is the first of its kind by IDC, which underpins the shift towards a transformative CIO mindset. In looking beyond cost and performance responsibilities to catalyze strategic innovation and collaboration, CIOs are ensuring IT becomes a core driver of business value and a successful change agent in achieving business resilience – and I look forward to contributing to this movement with my peer group of tech leaders.”

May is also an honoree on Forbes’ inaugural CIO Next list which recognizes her use of AI and data analytics to enhance operations and productivity to cope with the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic – in a period which saw many CIOs having to adjust or augment existing digital transformation strategies.
