Jabil Sites Race Across the Finish Line

Promoting an active and healthy lifestyle is an important focus at Jabil sites around the world, many of which demonstrate this by supporting employees’ participation in local runs and marathons. Aligning to Jabil Cares’ Education focus area, these activities help create awareness around the importance of living healthy lives and provides employees the opportunities to do so.

At Jabil Chihuahua, the site supported a local 10K race organized by Index, a local not-for-profit association for manufacturing industries in Mexico. Around 40 employees took part in this run, both as a commitment to a healthy lifestyle and to represent Jabil’s presence in the region’s manufacturing community.

“We had a goal to inspire and motivate employees to be active. Running at this event is a fun way to socialize with coworkers, as well as others in the manufacturing industry,” said Maritza Martinez, supply chain program manager at Jabil Chihuahua. “We all feel like part of a big family.”

Across the globe in Belgium, Jabil Hasselt also showed its commitment to the business community in the area by participating in the Genk Loopt (Genk Run) along with 34 other local companies. “This is the third year we’ve joined the race, and it’s always a fun little competition between companies. At the same time, it’s also a great way to improve our employees’ spirits and motivate each other to stay active and healthy,” said Krista Boons, human resources generalist. Jabil’s Hasselt site also offers training during lunch breaks for employees to prepare throughout the year, demonstrating its continuous commitment to healthy lifestyles.

Other sites around the world sponsor a team of runners for races that help local institutions, such as Jabil Corporate, which sponsored employees to race for Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg. Similarly, Jabil Uzhogord’s team of 60 employees raced to raised funds for the hematological department of a regional children’s hospital.

Joining races to that support children’s needs is a popular theme among Jabil facilities around the world, and many sites have a long history with organizations that help local youth, including Jabil Optics Germany’s sixth year participating in the Jena Team Run. This race helps a nonprofit that provides educational support to young refugees, as well as free psychological and emotional care for youth in the community.

“The atmosphere at the team run is always exciting. It feels great to do sports like this with so many other people, especially our peers,” said Andreas Kuemmel, human resources manager. “It’s a welcome diversion from the daily routine and helps us to get to know each other outside the work environment.”

These events also provide bonding experiences for employees around a similar interest of staying in shape, like Jabil Nagyigmánd, in Hungary, supported a team of a dozen employees at a race organized by a local fitness center. Operations Manager, Gabor Vendegh said, “This race promotes good health and team spirit as it challenges the individual physicality and creates a bond among the employees participating.”

Challenging oneself is also the theme for the Vertical Kilometers Roquetes, a race to the highest peak in Tarragona, Spain just outside the city of Tortosa. For the last seven years, Jabil’s Tortosa site has sponsored the event, with employees demonstrating their commitment to staying in shape and braving the tough terrain up the summit.

So, whether it’s to create awareness, fundraise for a nonprofit or join community efforts, these Jabil sites have proven one thing: encouraging a healthy lifestyle can be fun and rewarding.
